Break-in Procedures
Conditioning
Procedure for APS Linings
Metallic Linings
NOTE: APS linings are an
iron based, metallic compound. These linings must be properly
conditioned in order to provide optimum performance and service
life.
-
Taxi Aircraft at a high
rate of speed (30-35 kts.).
-
Apply brakes with a
slightly heavier than normal pressure.
-
Repeat the above
operation for a second consecutive time. Do not let the
brakes cool between stops.
-
Allow brakes to cool for
10-15 minutes.
-
Apply brakes to confirm
that normal pressure will hold the aircraft at high level
static run-up power settings. If brakes hold, conditioning
procedure is complete. If brakes do not hold, allow brakes
to cool completely and repeat steps 1-3.
Non-Metallic Linings *
-
Taxi aircraft for 1500
feet with engine at 1700 rpm applying brake pedal forces
needed to develop a 5-10 mph taxi speed.
-
Allow brakes to cool for
10-15 minutes.
-
Apply brakes to confirm
that normal pressure will hold the aircraft at high level
static run-up power settings. If brakes hold, conditioning
procedure is complete. If brakes do not hold, allow brakes
to cool completely and repeat steps 1-3.
* Non-metallic linings
are suitable for use with all types of steel or chrome plated
brake discs.
